West Chester Dragons Travel Baseball announces their Winter Player Development Training Programs

The West Chester Dragons Travel Baseball organization is excited to announce its Winter Player Development Training Programs, tailored specifically for Dragons players on our Spring/Summer 2018 rosters! Each program has been carefully crafted to further the development of our players in the off-season. Register now before the programs sell out! →

PLYOMETRIC TRAINING

  • Runs November 28, 2017 - December 28, 2017 (10 sessions)
  • 45-minute plyometrics workouts two times per week on Tuesday and Thursday
  • Held in the gym at West Chester Friends School
  • Limited to 12 players per group
  • Cost: $145

Core strength and explosiveness are the foundation of baseball-specific movements. Players with good core strength are able to throw harder, run faster and react more quickly. The Dragons offer indoor plyometric workout programs to cultivate these traits in our players. Building functional core strength is a great thing for the players to work on during their time off from throwing, heading into the Arm Care and Development Program (Weighted Ball Program) in January 2018.

The Plyometric Training Instructor is Coach Cory Sawka. Coaches Tony Laurento and Jordan Pennings will also assist. There are two group sessions are available to choose from:

  • Group 1: Tuesday at 5:45pm-6:30pm and Thursday at 5:00pm-5:45pm
  • Group 2: Tuesday at 6:30pm-7:15pm and Thursday at 5:45pm-6:30pm

CATCHERS CLINIC FOR 9U/10U/11U

  • November 28, December 5, December 12 and December 19, 2017 (4 sessions)
  • 45-minute clinic once a week on Tuesday from 5:00pm-5:45pm
  • Held in the gym at West Chester Friends School
  • Limited to 8 catchers
  • Cost: $50

The catcher position is perhaps the most difficult position on the field to master. In this clinic, catchers will be trained with the correct mechanics for stances, footwork, throwing, receiving, blocking, framing and fielding techniques. Players will be given drills to practice at home between sessions to improve their skills.

The Clinic Instructors will be Coaches Dom Ficca and Kevin Zynn. Both Dom and Kevin bring years of training and experience from catching in high school and college. Coach Cory Sawka will oversee the Clinic.

ARM CARE AND DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM (WEIGHTED BALL PROGRAM)

  • All Dragons players are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to participate in this program
  • Runs January 2018 through March 2018 (Registration will open in the next few weeks)
  • Held in the gym at West Chester Friends School

We are pleased to offer the Arm Care and Development Program developed by Tom House of the National Pitching Association. This research-based program is designed to build healthy arms and shoulders, while simultaneously increasing throwing velocity. The sessions involve the use of overweight and underweight baseballs, and Coach Bill Roberts will have them available for sale at the first workout. Radar measurements will be taken to track the player's progress.
